If you are an iPhone user you have certainly heard about the privacy issues regarding iPhone tracking your location. Now we have heard about Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple responding to these accusations.
He shared his refutation of this, as he thinks fake iPhone tracking scandal. He also warns that Apple isn’t tracking anyone but that you should think twice about the tracking problem on Android and Windows Phone 7 devices. Even more, in this email Steve Jobs claims that Android is definitely tracking its users.
But Cupertino company isn’t quite sincere in this case, although many experts which have tested and checked on this have found out that Apple isn’t sending the suspicious file named consolidated.db to anyone. This seems to confirm some hypothesis about this supposed tracking being just a minor bug instead of malicious data privacy breach. If this is just a bug, it will be sorted out as soon as the new iOS upgrade becomes available. Also if you have jailbroken your iPhone you can easily disable this tracking feature with a small Cydia app: Untracked which was quickly developed by Ryan Petrich. It will also delete the file with the location tracking data.
But what about the statement that Android is tracking their users and gathering their personal location data? What about Windows Phone 7? Do they gather such data and for what purpose exactly? If this really comes from Steve Jobs there must be some truth in this accusation. Will we soon hear more about this? Lets hope some researcher will be able to find the truth soon enough. Stay tuned as we will write about all news regarding this problem.
